CMGA Committees
AUDIT **
The Audit Committee examines the Treasurer’s accounts annually and prepares a report for the Board of Directors after the close of each fiscal year. The report is submitted to the Board no later than February 1 of the following year and includes any recommendations for change. The Board reviews the report and recommendations and votes to approve as presented or with changes.
COMMUNICATIONS ***
This committee oversees all external communications for the advancement and delivery of CMGA’s mission to the public including:
Our CMGA Newsletter: The Laurel. Responsible for the creation, printing and distribution.
CMGA Website: Responsible for the design, maintenance and technical support.
Social Media: Facebook, Instagram
DEI - Diversity, equity and inclusion ***
The purpose of the DEI Committee is to extend horticultural knowledge and the love of gardening to Connecticut's underserved communities, particularly those from diverse backgrounds living in urban areas. This Committee, through its members and other MGs, will provide programming of interest to these communities, thereby helping to increase awareness of the MG program and its resources and potentially attracting more diverse participation in the MG program.
GRANTS ***
Administers awarding of monetary assistance to Master Gardeners and Master Gardener Interns for projects promoting horticultural knowledge and serving community needs with garden based activities. Recommendations based on specific guidelines are submitted to the Board of Directors for approval.
MEMBERSHIP DEVELOPMENT & events***
Responsible for coordinating and overseeing implementation of CMGA programs and events (except the Symposium), maintaining and increasing membership, and cultivating a strong, robust partnership with the UConn MG Coordinators.
NOMINATING **
The Nominations Committee is comprised of Board members not currently holding an elected office. The Committee recruits and nominates candidates for Board membership as well as one candidate for each officer position. The Committee solicits recommendations from all Board members as part of the process and works to ensure Board representation from all counties within the State of Connecticut. The Committee invites all CMGA members to express interest in Board member candidacy.
POliCies & Procedures **
The Policies and Procedures committee is responsible for ensuring that the bylaws and board manual are up-to-date and reflect current board policies.
Maintains and updates the Board manual
Suggests changes to the bylaws to the Board; incorporates approved changes into the manual.
Ensures that the current manual is covered during board orientation and that Board members have access to the manual.
Maintains the Board commitment letter, application document, Conflict of Interests, annual disclosure form
SYMPOSIUM ***
This event takes place annually in March with a main theme incorporating speakers presenting lectures and demonstrations applicable to the theme. It is our main fundraising event to support our mission. The Chair develops a project plan for all operational components of the Symposium, whether in person or virtual, and draws on committee and member volunteers to implement assigned production tasks.
